Emerging AI in China’s Video Entertainment
China’s vibrant video entertainment industry is generating valuable data, prompting companies to invest in artificial intelligence tools designed for creating advertisements and video clips.
Top AI Models Rankings
According to the research firm Artificial Analysis, TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, ranks first and third in their list of leading text-to-video generative AI models launched in recent months. Google follows closely, securing second and fourth places, while the Beijing-based short video platform Kuaishou’s Kling AI ranks fifth.
Competition in Video Generation
Despite some consolidation in other segments of the AI sector, competition in AI video generation is still in its infancy, with several Chinese companies positioning themselves as early leaders. Wei Xiong, an internet analyst at UBS Securities, stated, “We believe AI video generation has the potential to reshape the content industry by enhancing production efficiency, lowering barriers to creation and unlocking new monetization models.”
Innovative Features of Kling AI
Kling AI allows users to upload one or more images to prompt the generation of a video clip. It also features tools where users can input text, and the AI will produce a corresponding video.
During this week’s World AI Conference in Shanghai, Kling announced that over 20,000 businesses, including advertisers and movie animators, currently utilize its services. The latest version, Kling 2.1, can now automatically incorporate relevant sound effects that align with the AI-generated visuals.
A Global Perspective
Kling AI’s reach extends beyond China. As Zeng Yushen, the company’s head of operations, shared with CNBC, “Whether it’s user scale or commercial revenue, overseas accounts for the majority.” She added plans are in motion to boost support for their tools in regions such as Japan, South Korea, and Europe. Zeng also noted that AI models are increasingly becoming globalized, stating, “People don’t seem to care which country’s product it is.”
