Martha Stewart Comments on Meghan Markle’s New Brand
Lifestyle icon Martha Stewart recently made headlines with her remarks about Meghan Markle’s entry into the lifestyle industry. Speaking to Yahoo Lifestyle, Stewart expressed her reservations about Markle’s expertise.
“Meghan I don’t really know very well, and I hope she knows what she’s talking about,” the 83-year-old Stewart stated. She emphasized the importance of authenticity in any endeavor. “Authenticity, to me, is everything, and to be authentic and knowledgeable about your subject matter is extremely important,” she added.
Stewart Praises Gwyneth Paltrow
In contrast, Stewart spoke highly of Gwyneth Paltrow, the actress-turned-entrepreneur behind the wellness brand Goop. “Gwyneth has been very successful; she created quite an interesting body of businesses,” Stewart remarked, noting Paltrow’s achievements. She added, “She won an Oscar, for heaven’s sake, as an actress! She’s pretty powerful.”
Markle’s Lifestyle Brand and Criticism
While expressing her views, Stewart mentioned she doesn’t mind having successors and wished them all “good luck.” Since stepping back from royal duties in 2020 and relocating to the U.S., Markle, alongside her husband Prince Harry, has pursued several projects.
In March, Markle launched her lifestyle brand, As Ever, which focuses on cooking and hosting. She also debuted a Netflix series titled “With Love, Meghan.” Despite facing backlash, with some calling the show “pointless” and “narcissistic,” it has been renewed for a second season.
Critique of As Ever Products
Markle’s website for As Ever offers a variety of products, including rosé, teas, honey, a cookie mix, a crêpe mix, and an apricot fruit spread. Recently, jam expert Donna Collins criticized the fruit spread, stating, “It’s a real disappointment that Meghan is selling a fruit spread, which is what you make when your jam fails.” Collins elaborated on her concerns, indicating that a spread typically signifies a failed jam product. “There’s no excuse for this. It should be perfect,” she asserted.
Collins concluded by suggesting that those responsible for producing Markle’s spread might need more expertise in their craft.
